Ghiringhelli's

Novato, California - 2022-06-13

Tonight there was an open mic night, so I went and met the producer, Mr. Donovan, and asked if I could play a few pieces on my Akai MPC Live II.  He welcomed me to perform.

I followed a fellow named Bob, with some very interesting blues guitar, and harmonica, and singing the vocals. He sung several songs, the first of which had lyrics including "Will you feed me when I am 64."

I was then given my turn. I let the crowd know that, up until that point, I was an open mic virgin. They were very encouraging for me to share the experience with them.

I am not a vocalist, but I started by entertaining the crowd with an old tune, sung by George Carlin in his Wonderful WINO radio days, which he attributed to the Organ Donors:

I sent my sinuses to Arizona,
I sent my liver to Peru,
I sent my lungs and my kidneys, for the summer to Sidney,
but I am sending my heart to you!

My Performance

I performed several of my pieces. I started with my piece Disappearing, and I explained how the song is an experiment in how to end a song. I let everyone know that eventually the piece would begin disappearing, and I wanted the crowd to signal by raising their hand when they first noticed the piece disappearing. The song is a long piece, and was already well into the disappearing stages before anyone noticed. The piece was ambient, in that many conversations continued during the wind down, until the piece got well into its disappearing.

I then asked for any birthdays in the crowd, and one person was having a birthday eventually! So I played Suspense 2, along with the version of Suspense that includes Happy Birthday.

To take things to a happier realm, I then performed the Heavenly Music Box.

Then a few beats such as Langkawi, the piece Royalty that illustrates stretched out cymbals.

I finished with Melody Improv 1.
